Guise and Dolls – Figurative Sculpture Class with Melissa Ichiuji (Spring 2017)
“Doll making is a magical activity; a potent cocktail of catharsis, conjuring and play.”
– Melissa Ichiuji
Happy 2017!! May the new year bring inspiration, creative fierceness and boundless opportunities! I’m very excited to announce that I will be teaching a special 6 week session of Guise and Dolls figurative sculpture class in preparation for an upcoming exhibition titled “Progeny” which will showcase the work of my students.
The focus of this 8 week session will deal with the concept of PROGENY.
PROGENY = offspring, seed, descendant, fruit of ones loins …
Using the theme PROGENY as a jumping off point, participants will explore their unique cultural, geographical, idealogical, circumstantial and spiritual inheritance . Through writing, storytelling and sharing we will investigate how we relate to the legacy we have inherited in the present and ask ourselves how we envision this legacy informing, nourishing and shaping our future narrative.
6 Week Session, Saturdays 10am-1pm
When: March 4, 2017 to April 8, 2017
10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Location: 11810 Parklawn Drive
Artists and Makers Studios
Rockville, MD 20852 United States
